Morning Surprises

I may think I know what we have planned for the day, but, in reality, my days are taken in new directions many times due to Cody and Anna. They throw me a curveball and all you can do is run with it! For instance, this morning as I was getting ready Cody was being a perfect angel in our room. He was having so much fun playing “pretend.” He kept talking about the bridge he was building and how “noone can get past this bridge!” He was so proud, and as I watched him walk around making this pretend bridge it was so fun seeing him use his imagination. Occasionally, Anna would fuss, but Cody always let me know he rescued her from the thread (I assumed she had a clothing thread that bothered her.) And from what I could see, that was what it appeared to me also. As I left the bathroom, I walked into a tangled mess! The “pretend” bridge it looked like Cody was making was actually made out of very real sewing thread he had gotten from my bedside table drawer. It took him no time to wrap our whole bedroom up in beige thread, hidden to my eyes previously! Cody did such a good job on it we had to find scissors to cut our way through this homemade trap!
Anna also took bathtime in a different direction for me last week. While bathing with Cody she pulled back the clear shower curtain and said “hide.” We play this game almost every bathtime, so I pulled the curtain back slightly to surprise her. She then tugged back at it and said, “No. HIDE.” I didn’t think much of it, so I let her have more time to hide; I could still see her through the clear curtain. She was hiding longer than usual, and that’s when it HIT me………Anna was taking care of some potty business (number 2 to be exact)! Poor Cody! When he realized what happened he hightailed it out of the tub (he is still our very neat child.) SO plans changed. I had to scrub the bathtub down several times, clean the bath toys, and bathe the children AGAIN. These are some of my unexpected surprises I have experienced just in the last week. Shawn and I laugh over the humor in it all!
