Things That Go Bump In the night

I had just put Cody to bed when I hear his door open. I go upstairs to find him looking puzzled and a little concerned. He asked me, “Mommy, what’s that noise?” See, Cody has never had a time when he has been afraid at night, so this questioning was a first. He walked over to the corner of his room, laughed, and said, “Oh! It is just my balloon.” He had a balloon hovering over the vent, and the air blowing from it caused the balloon to brush up against his wall. I moved the balloon to the other side of the room, and Cody told me, “I thought maybe it was spiders or bugs or flies making that noise. I thought it was weird stuff or scary stuff, but it was just my balloon.” As I was leaving he stopped me and said in a very sweet, appreciative tone, “Mommy, thanks for telling me it was just my balloon making that noise.” Sweet relief.
