A Grandparent’s Love Never Grows Old
My parents came to visit us this month. We went to the movies and saw Cinderella which I thought was very well done! We also got to eat at Kitaro’s where Shawn proved again that he is the master of catching flying shrimp in his mouth. Our chef joked that he must have worked for Sea World! Mom thought her Sunday clothes were about to be ruined when our chef pretended to spill sauce on her, and Abby conquered her fear of the fire. This was Abby’s first dining experience there where she actually enjoyed the table fun and didn’t leave traumatized. Dad and Shawn both worked on trying to fix the keyboard Anna wants to use for music lessons. Dad was also a good sport and let Anna use his face as a canvas to paint a butterfly. We went shopping and found a prayer request journal back in one of the dressing rooms for customers to write down prayer requests. Anna jotted down her prayer for Grandma. As I glanced at the lines on the pages I saw the word “cancer” scattered throughout. Oh, how I hate that word!…Life was never meant to be this hard. We went to church and had a little scuffle with the children over who gets to sit by Grandma and Grandpa. I seem to recall this same “discussion” at dinnertime too. I can think of much worse battles, though, so I count these moments as blessings. I don’t think I could adequately express just how precious grandparents are to their grandchildren. A few weeks ago Anna was assigned a character sketch for school. She wrote her paper on her grandpa. I thought it was cute, so I included it below.
