Oh, The Places You’ll Go
Today was monumental. Dylan asked me if we could take his reading book to martial arts so that he could read to me…for FUN. That was huge. You see, I used to think kindergarten was the easy grade. Then I had children of my own, and as I watched them try to tackle cursive writing at the age of 5 and memorize the special sounds and clue words in phonics, well, it can be a little overwhelming. I can see mental images of Dylan throughout this school year laying his head on the table in defeat and saying to me, “I can’t get it.” But he can get it. And he did get it. And he is getting it. And I am, oh, so very proud of him. And I love that he notices it too, that it’s all clicking with him, that it’s easier, that it’s fun. These are those lightbulb moments that I am so very lucky to be a witness to.
