Trust Issues

I told Shawn that almost every year when Dylan has donuts with Santa he tells Santa something completely different on his wish list than what I was even aware he wanted.  It sends me into panic mode because, at that point, I have almost all his presents bought.  I get frustrated by his fickleness and wish he would have informed me about this earlier.  So this year I talked to Dylan ahead of time.  I said to Dylan, “So, do you think you’re going to tell Santa about the husky (toy dog) you’ve been wanting?”  He responds by telling me that he isn’t sure yet what he is going to tell Santa.  I quickly say, “Why?  You have REALLY been hoping for this husky.”  Then everything is made clear in his explanation to me, “Yes, but I really want that dog, and I’m afraid if I tell Santa, maybe he won’t get it.  And Daddy and you might think that Santa is getting it, and if Santa doesn’t get him for me I won’t have him.  So I just want to tell Daddy and you about the husky.”  Ah, now I see!  Santa, apparently, has not gained Dylan’s trust!
