Wilson!!

We went on a picnic for Mother’s Day.  We shared a lot of laughs as we ate, including the one of the man who ran right by us in his unseemly shorty shorts that flapped in the breeze! My eyes! Ha! After we ate we played some volleyball by the lake.  Abigail accidentally passed the volleyball into the lake, and we watched as it floated out further, with no means of being able to retrieve it.  Shawn made reference to Wilson, the volleyball in the movie Castaway that served as the main character’s friend and only companion as he was stranded on a deserted island for 4 years.  Abby was pretty sad about losing the ball, but we decided to use the time to hike some stairs that winded through a woods near the lake.  Shawn had always wondered where they led.  When we finally reached the end of the stairs, we saw a deer walk right across our path.  We stood there and watched it eat, lifting its hooves in the air to reach the branches on the trees.  The kids laughed as they watched it relieve itself afterwards…funny how much it looks like a kangaroo while doing so!  The deer did not appear to be afraid of us being there.  I told Abby we would have missed out on getting to watch the deer if we were still playing volleyball…teaching her to look for the bright side.  It was a fun evening.  We topped it off with popcorn and the movie Castaway, of course!  (We did use a streaming video company to skip any profanity…no need for that nonsense)
