Cody’s First Missing Tooth

Friday evening, November 5, 2010, there was a lot of celebrating and jumping up and down in our home. Cody lost his first tooth! He was brushing his teeth when he noticed “something” fall into the sink (thankfully, not down the drain!). He questioned what it could be, “Wait a minute…” Then he was just bursting with joy, elated, to discover it was his tooth! He kept saying he was a lucky boy and requested I make tooth pancakes the next morning! I made the pancakes, but Shawn, since we were short on tooth cookie cutters (smile), sweetly cut out tooth shapes for our breakfast. Cody asked if we could have spaghetti, so he could slurp the noodles through his new gap. Oh, and juice boxes, as well, so he can stick the straw through his hole. He has been so happy about this that he surprised me on Sunday morning when he told me, with tears in his eyes, on our way to church that he really wanted to tell his Sunday school teacher about his first missing tooth, but he was afraid the other children would find out and he might feel silly. He was afraid he would be the only one without a tooth. Ugh, these are the things that tear at a Momma’s heart. I told him Heaven, his friend, just lost a tooth and his friend Michael had. I was sure a lot of the children were missing some teeth. That morning he did tell his teacher. How could he not? He has loved this teacher so much, and she has played such a huge role in his life these past 2 years. He adores her. I was glad he told her that morning, but he did tell me he was afraid a girl next to them heard. Now that he is home again he keeps telling us how lucky he is! Aww…childhood…and all the mixed emotions and learning and building of confidence that goes with it…I love your new grin, Cody!
