Water Party and Lemon Fang Cookies

Cody’s friend Noble had a birthday party Monday.  It was an outdoor party in their backyard. They had all sorts of water games and toys, a slip ‘n slide, an obstacle course, baseball, and other fun activities.  When I picked Cody up from the party I could tell all the boys were having a great time.  There was so much excitement in the air!  Cody said when I arrived that it was the best day ever!  I think Noble’s mom was happy to hear that!  Julie and Kevin told Anna and Dylan to try out their toy roller coaster in the backyard.  They loved it!  They had the perfect hill to get it going fast.

I also wanted to share something else that I have been loving.  We picked out some Nate the Great Detective books from the library last week.  I figured Cody and Anna would both enjoy these.  Apparently, some of the books have recipes inside to go along with the stories.  Cody has LOVED that!  He read a mystery that involved a dog named Fang, so the book put in a recipe for Lemon Fang Cookies.  Of course, Cody wanted to try them out!  Thankfully, my mom had given me a dog and bone cookie cutter a few years back, so we got right to work.  Cody even wrote out several recipes from the books and has started his own cookbook.  He has a recipe for turtle candy he wants to try next.  I love it…mysteries and cooking!  What a great way to get boys interested in baking their own treats!  I also love how the kids took liberty in decorating their cookies.  There is no right or wrong in how you decorate them.  Cody even told me while decorating, “It’s like Ms. Frizzle (from the Magic School Bus) says, ‘Make mistakes and have fun!'”  And if you know what a perfectionist Cody was with himself when he was little, you know just how much I love hearing him say this!
