Team Flames

Shawn coached Cody’s team once again this past year so that Cody could have a chance to play with some of his old team again. Shawn told me at one point that Cody calls him Coach on the field. I sort of dismissed it because I never heard him use the name, thinking the context he used it in must have been perfectly natural. My mind changed, though, when several days later Cody was talking to me at home about one of his practices. He said with the most serious intensity, “Well, Coach told me…” I tried my best to keep a straight face, but I just kept thinking, “We are in our home now…You mean your DAD??” Somehow their relationship changes when it comes to sports, I guess!
