Discovery Trunks
Last week I went to the Missouri Department of Conservation and picked up one of their Discovery Trunks. This trunk was all about common mammals in Missouri. I wanted to do this for the school year but thought we could focus and enjoy it more just in our spare time. The trunk contained animal tracks, probably 15 animal skulls, and around the same amount of animal pelts. There were animal cards containing fun facts about different animals in our area. The kids really learned a lot and had fun doing it! Cody did not want to pull the animal skins out of the bag, so Anna and I gave it a try and found we were more squeamish about those things than we thought! We saved that job for Daddy when he got home from work! Some of the girls in the neighborhood came over while we had the pelts laying out on the deck. They loved it and wrapped the furs (with the heads) around their necks and put on a fashion show! I will definitely be borrowing some of the other Discovery Trunks in the future. This one was just fantastic!
