Onondaga Cave State Park
We spent Father’s Day weekend camping at Onondaga Cave State Park. I am not going to lie…Anna and I were a little skeptical about going on this trip, but Cody had been wanting to go for so long. Some of Anna’s fears were sleeping in the “creepy” dark, bats in the cave we were going to walk through, and gross bathrooms with dead bugs on the floor. We surprised ourselves, though! The kids LOVED camping out, and I managed just fine without a shower, hair dryer, or curling iron for the weekend. Ha! We enjoyed listening to the pitter-patter of the rain on our tent as we slept at night, playing games, and fishing. We roasted hot dogs and s’mores, and made up stories at bedtime. The kids got into huge fits of laughter at bedtimes, and we kept having to remind them to stay quiet because other fellow campers might be trying to get some sleep. I enjoyed the time spent together without technology and nothing but playing on the to-do-list. Shawn and I talked about how much work goes into camping, but I think the kids made good memories. Shawn got a good nap (and shower) when we got home. He deserved it!
P.S. The pillow cases Cody and Anna made at VBX (Vacation Bible Experience) the week before.
