He is Risen
We had our school Easter party early this year because several of the moms were pregnant and due around Easter, so we wanted to be sure they and their children could join us. We didn’t plan it out the best, I guess, because Angie had baby Graham weeks early, and they could not make it to the party. Our party was supposed to be at the park, but we had thunderstorms all week. We ended up using a multi-purpose room at the library and, afterwards, headed to the skating rink. Kristen made a Resurrection snack with the kids which Shawn and I later did with our two and three year old class at church. The donut was to appear like the opening of the tomb, and the Oreo represented the stone being rolled away. My heart was touched the next morning when I received a message from my friend April saying her daughter’s favorite part of the party was hearing me tell the story of the Resurrection eggs. Wow! April said she loved it over the egg hunt and skating! The awesome part about it is April has no idea how I searched and searched for the story booklet that went missing from my carton the evening before. Or how I dreamt the night before the party that my sister Kelli was holding the booklet in my kitchen letting me know, “I found it!” Or how I woke and spent the morning searching. I was so frazzled that I could lose something; we don’t have that many hiding spots. On the way to the party it dawned on me that I KNOW the story of the Resurrection eggs; I don’t need to have everything “perfect.” I can stray from the way I think things should go. And then it hit me…I was so wrapped up searching for something that didn’t even matter that I forgot I was sharing the message of salvation with the children. Then I began to pray for the kids, and for God to speak through me that morning. It was a great reminder that it is God who is working in these kids’ lives, and he just wants us to be willing to share His message in love. Happy Easter! He is risen!
