We Have a Teenager in the House
We had the best day celebrating Cody’s 13th birthday with grilling, canoeing, sand volleyball, cake, and ice cream sundaes with friends! Some highlights from the party:
1. An unexpected call from our contractor telling us that he could start work on our bathroom the morning of the party. This resulted in our water being turned off and the boys heading to our sweet neighbor’s house for bathroom breaks! Ms. Susi was a lifesaver.
2. Jack getting a little crazy on us and licking Owen. Needless to say, Owen would not sit next to him on the car ride home. Ha!
3. Isaac throwing a flaming candle on the cake. He said it was either the cake or the table. I think he chose wisely!
4. The smack talk while canoeing. Boys get pretty competitive!
5. Party gifts like fidget spinners. They are all the rage right now. Toy of the year 2017.
I am so proud of the young man Cody is becoming. I have witnessed and received messages from individuals recently telling me of different acts of kindness Cody has done that has warmed someone’s heart. Just last week Cody came to me and asked me if I would like to hear his favorite song. I stood there listening to the lyrics with him and was so impressed that these are the lyrics that speak to his heart right now. I am going to share them here to remember that this was his favorite song when he became a teenager. He also has a desire to be an astronaut, so I found the one line very fitting. Cody, I hope you always cling to God and remember what’s most important in this life. He is everything you need. Happy birthday, Cody!
“I Wanna Go Back”
When I was a kid
I was sure
I could run across the ocean
And I was gonna be an astronaut
When it was You and it was me
I had everything I needed
Faith could even move a mountain top
And then I grew up
And then I got older
Then my life got tough
And we grew apart
I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back
When I was a kid
I didn’t care to keep up with the Jones’s
I was just happy that they lived next door
When it was You and it was me
I had everything I needed
Your hands were big enough to hold the world
And then I grew up
And then I got older
Then my life got tough
And we grew apart
I wanna go back
To Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me
For the Bible tells me so
I wanna go back
To this little light
Gonna let it shine
Gonna let it shine
I wanna go back
I wanna go back, back to
Yes, Jesus loves me
