Your Wave is Coming
We went out on some wave runners the one morning. Honestly, the thought of going out on them made my stomach a bit uneasy. Last time we were on wave runners, we encountered a whole group of very playful dolphins who wanted to play in the wake left by our wave runners. They literally leaped out of the water all around us as we drove full throttle. One startled Shawn by coming out of the water right across and in front of him. We hoped they were intelligent enough to judge their distance! Thankfully, this time the dolphins weren’t quite as playful. They appeared all around us, mainly surfacing peacefully and going back under. Anna named the last one she saw Dolly. The most memorable part of our outing was when we found a dock nearby where Shawn and I switched riders. He took the boys, and I got the girls. The girls were a lot of fun, howling and making their own dolphin calls! At one point, Shawn and the boys seemed to be motioning us over to them. Shawn had the phone, so I assumed he wanted to let me know how much time we had left. I also knew he was talking about going out a different direction to look for more dolphins. Then I wondered if I had accidentally entered a slow speed section of the waters and whether he was concerned about me getting a ticket for going full throttle. I drove out to him. As we got closer, Shawn and the boys picked up speed and were just about to turn sharply into us! I knew what was about to happen, but it was too late! I couldn’t get away fast enough. The boys SOAKED us with a large spray of fishy smelling water! All the girls and I could do was scream! When we got off the wave runners later, Dylan said to me, “I am never going to forget this day!” They all (well, one of the kids had many favorites) said it was their favorite activity we did that week!
