Fall Formal~Who is This Kid??
When Anna’s friend Emma asked Anna if she would go to the fall formal/dance with her, Anna hesitated to answer. Being in 8th grade, she didn’t feel like she should be going to a high school event. She said she would only go if Cody went too. After talking Cody into going to the dance, they managed to persuade Cody’s friend Colton into going with them. Colton felt queasy at the thought of a dance, but he agreed to go. I hope Anna knows how incredibly lucky she is that these boys did this for her! The funny thing is, the boys absolutely loved the event and danced for 4 hours straight!! I was shocked when my friend who was there chaperoning sent me a text telling me the boys were on the packed dance floor having a blast!! She said the boys attempted to get the girls out there too, and, while they were successful at getting them out on the floor, the boys had no luck at actually getting them to dance. When Shawn and I arrived at the very end for the mother/son and father/daughter dance, we saw Cody dancing away. His moves looked good, and he definitely danced with confidence. There were some senior boys who asked Cody to join them several times, and they formed a circle while two really good dancers showed off their skills in the center of the circle. I think I leaned over to Shawn and asked him at one point, “Who is this kid?!?!” We got a glimpse of a completely different side of Cody that night! On the contrary, Shawn caught Anna and Emma making a run for the bathrooms just as the father/daughter song was about to begin. Shawn caught Anna, though, and made her dance with him, ha! It was a fun evening! We had a good time listening to all the different stories from the night like the boy in the suit jacket and snowman pants that did the splits while dancing and literally split his pants! We also heard stories about the flirtatious girl who came up to dance with Cody several times, at one point grabbing his hand to dance. Anna recognized her from the JV volleyball team. She said she always thought she was quiet and shy, but then she exclaimed, “APPARENTLY NOT!!!” Good memories were made! One of my favorite quotes from the night was when Anna was getting herself ready. She has never really desired to wear makeup. Afraid we might put too much makeup on and not have that natural look she wanted, Anna got nervous when I handed her a pink toned lip gloss. She said to me with all sincerity, “But is that going to make me look too goth?” Too goth??? Anna. it’s pink! Pink is sweet. Pink is safe. Definitely not goth! She looked beautiful!
